In this ink jet printer 100, a carriage 2 is temporarily fixed to a housing 3 with a fixing tape 10. One end part of the fixing tape 10 is exposed beyond a cover case 5. Since the carriage 2 is temporarily fixed to the housing 3, a locking mechanism 4 can be prevented from being broken by the vibration during the transportation of the printer. Further, since the fixing tape 10 exposes itself beyond the cover case 5, the exposed part of the tape catches the eyes of a user. As a result, the user can remove the fixing tape 10 from the carriage 2 and the housing 3 before the use of the ink jet printer 100, resulting in allowing to reduce the noise at the start of the use of the ink jet printer 100.
