Title:
FIXING METHOD FOR SPHERICAL MICROLENS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02154207
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the performance of optical coupling by pressing the spherical microlens in the center part of a cross groove and fixing the spherical microlens so that the spherical microlens is pressed by four parallel edge parts of the cross groove which face an axis of symmetry. CONSTITUTION:The cross groove 4 is easily formed by a cutting machine used to cut a semiconductor wafer and optical crystal with high accuracy. The machining accuracy is less than several mum and center axis deviation accuracy which is about 1/10 as large as that of a cylindrical hole formed by a conventional drill machining method. Further, when the spherical microlens 1 is inserted into a lens holder part 8, four edge parts and the spherical surface contact each other at four points, so the insertion pressure is reduced greatly, thereby fixing the spherical microlens extremely stably by the intrusion effect of the edge part. Consequently, the spherical microlens 1 can be fixed strongly to the lens holder part 8 with the small insertion pressure, so the performance of the optical coupling is improved.
