Title:
FLAME-RETARDANT HEAT-RESISTANT STYRENE RESIN COMPOSITION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH1112417
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition excellent in heat resistance and flame retardancy and useful for household electrical appliance housings, etc., by blending a styrene resin, an organophosphorus compound and an uncured phenolic resin each in a specified amount so as to give a residual aromatic vinyl monomer content below a specified value. SOLUTION: This composition consists of 100 pts.wt. styrene resin preferably comprising a rubber-modified styrene resin alone or its mixture with a rubber- unmodified styrene resin, 1-100 pts.wt. organophosphorus compound [e.g. 1,3- phenylenebis(diphenylphosphate)] and 0.1-50 pts.wt. uncured phenolic resin preferably comprising a novolak resin, with a softening temperature of 100-200C and/or a total content of unreacted feedstock phenols and aldehydes of at most 1 wt.%. It has a total content of residual aromatic vinyl monomer and its dimer and trimer of at most 1 wt.%. If necessary, 1-100 pts.wt. polyphenylene ether is blended in addition with the composition.
