To obtain a flame-retardant polymer composition improved in flame retardancy without causing environmental pollution by mixing a specified metal- ion-coated boron phosphate with a specified polysiloxane and a specified polymer.
A salt of at least one metal selected from among the metals of groups IIA, IIB, IIIB, IVB, VIIB and VIII is added to a slurry containing boric phosphate obtained by mixing hydrated boric acid with phosphoric acid and calcining the obtained mixture, and the resultant slurry is dried to obtain an additive comprising boron phosphate coated with metal ions having a thickness of 1.5μm or below. At most 20wt.% this additive is mixed at most 20wt.% polysiloxane represented by the formula [wherein R1 is a 1-5 C alkyl; R2 is a 1-5 C alkyl, an N-(2-aminoalkyl)-3-aminoalkyl, provided that R2 is an N-(2- aminoalkyl)-3-amonoalkyl when w is 0; R3 is H or a 1-5 C alkyl; (w) is 1 or 1 (x) and (y) are each 1-7: and (z) is 0-7]and a polymer system selected from among (in) compatible polymer mixtures, copolymers, copolymers, thermoplastic polymers and thermosetting polymers.
