Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant silicone rubber composition, showing no discoloration of the outer surface after being vulcanized with hot air at normal pressure and useful for, e.g. flame-retardant electric wires, by making the composition include a specific organopolysiloxane, organic peroxide and organic acid, titanium oxide, and platinum (or platinum-based compound) in specific ratios.
SOLUTION: This composition is composed of (A) 100 pts.wt. of an organopolysiloxane shown by the formula R1nSiO(4-n)/2 as the average compositional formula [R1 is a (substituted) monovalent hydrocarbon; and (n) is 1.98 to 2.02], (B) 0.5 to 50 pts.wt. titanium oxide of rutile type or the like, (C) 0.1 to 10 pts.wt. of an organic peroxide, e.g. p-methyl benozoyl peroxide or o-methyl benzoyl peroxide, shown by formula I [R is a monovalent hydrocarbon not substituted; and (n) is 1 to 3], (D) 0.1 to 5 pts.wt. of an organic acid shown by formula II [X is methyl, ethyl, propyl or a halogen; and (n) is 1 to 6], e.g. 2,4-dichlorobenzoate, and (E) platinum or a platinum-based compound at 1 to 1000 ppm, based on the component A.
