PURPOSE: To provide a flame retarder compsn. having improved thermal stability, by blending a phosphite with a flame retarder composed of a compd. contg. brominated aliph. hydrocarbon groups.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1W20pts.wt. phosphite of formula I (wherein R1, R2 are each a 3W20C alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl) is blended with 100pts.wt. flame retarder composed of a compd. contg. brominated aliph. hydrocarbon groups. Examples of the compds. used as the flame retarder are those wherein a bromine atom is attached to straight-chain, branched or cyclic aliph. satd. or unsaturated hydrocarbon groups or these brominated aliph. hydrocarbon groups are attached to part of a compd. The compds. having a halogen content of 30% or above are preferred. Examples of the compds. of formula I are those of formulas II and III.
