This flat panel display apparatus comprises a first base 2; an electron emission portion 20 formed on the first base 2; a second base 4 positioned with arbitrary space to the first base 2 and forming a vacuum container 6 together with the first base 4; an anode electrode 12 formed on the second substrate for emitting light with the aid of electrons emitted from the electron emission portion, and further formed on one surface of the second substrate facing the first substrate; and a luminous portion formed on the second base with anode electrodes 16 formed on one surface of the second base opposite to the first base and fluorescence films 18 formed on the anode electrodes in an arbitrary pattern to emit light by electrons emitted from the electron emission portion, wherein the ratio k of the mean particle diameter D of the phosphor and the film density S of the fluorescence films to the number of the fluorescence films n expressed by the formula 1 is 0.16-0.23.
