To provide a backplane for use in an electro-optic display.
A backplane (100, 200, 300, 400) for use in an electro-optic display comprises a patterned metal foil. The foil has a plurality of apertures extending therethrough, is coated with an insulating polymeric material (104, 106, 108) on at least a side thereof, and has a plurality of thin film electronic devices (302, 402) provided on the insulating polymeric material (104, 106, 108). This invention relates to flexible electronic circuits and displays. More specifically, this invention relates to circuits and displays using electro-optic media. This invention also relates to production of electro-optic displays on curved surfaces. The curved surfaces may be curved in one or two dimensions. This invention is especially but not exclusively concerned with electro-optic displays using encapsulated electrophoretic media.
