Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a float glass manufacturing apparatus, in which a stress to occur in the upper structure of a molding equipment is reduced at a rising time, and in which the number of defects to occur in the top face of a glass ribbon is reduced.SOLUTION: A float glass manufacturing apparatus comprises: a bathtub; a roof casing disposed over said bathtub; a roof layer suspended from the ceiling part of said roof casing; side walls arranged laterally of said roof layer and contacting with the internal surfaces of side wall parts extending downward from the ceiling part of said roof casing; a heater inserted into a through hole vertically extending through said roof layer and protruding downward from said roof layer; and a closure member closing the gap formed between said roof layer and said side walls. Said closure member closes said clearance and changes a relative position relative to said roof layer and at least one of said side walls in response to the approaches of said roof layer and said side walls.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
