To provide a mascara applicator with varying bristle characteristics, in particular, a flocked applicator with bristle characteristics varying at regular intervals along the length of the applicator.
The mascara applicator includes: an elongate shaft; and an array having at least annular members of a first group and a second group. In the mascara applicator, a plurality of fibers are provided, wherein each fiber is made of a material having predetermined hardness, flexibility, diameter and length, and ends of fibers are attached on surfaces of the respective annular members of the first group and the second group, and the other free ends of fibers are separated from the surfaces of the respective annular members of the first group and the second group. Each annular member of the second group may not be flocked or may be flocked on a surface different from the surface flocked on each member of the first group, or may have a radial or axial dimension that is different from the annular members of the first group.
