PURPOSE: To provide a flooring composition containing cellulose or wood fiber, a synthetic rubber latex binder, fillers, antioxidants, etc., and having excellent heat-resistance.

CONSTITUTION: The objective flooring composition having excellent heat- resistance and useful as a lining material for linoleum or flooring tile is produced by compounding 5-25 pts.wt. of fibers such as cellulose fiber, wood fiber or ceramic fiber, 30-90 pts.wt. of a filler such as clay or talc and 3 pts.wt. of an antioxidant (e.g. diphenylamine compound) to 5-25 pts.wt. of a binder composed of a synthetic rubber latex polymer. The latex copolymer is produced from a monomer mixture containing 20-70 wt.% of an 8-15C vinyl-substituted aromatic monomer (e.g. styrene), 30-90 wt.% of a 4-12C conjugated diene (e.g. butadiene), 5 wt.% of an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid (e.g. itaconic acid or fumaric acid) and 5 wt.% of a functional crosslinking agent other than the above components [e.g. (meth)acrylamide].
