PURPOSE: To prevent the clogging of a heater tube and to respond promptly to the increase in the load of a heater by supplying an organic or inorganic compound having a plurality of coordination or positions to maintain its concentration at least a specified value (ppm) in a process for the regeneration of sulfur dioxide gas from an absorption liquid in which sulfur oxides are absorbed by sulfite.
CONSTITUTION: In the treatment of combustion exhaust gas 1 in an absorption column 2, sulfur oxides comprising mainly sulfur dioxide gas are absorbed by sulfite, and exhaust gas after the absorption is led to a stack from an outlet pipe 3. A part of absorption liquid is purged from an absorption liquid purging pipe 4, and the rest is supplied to the first heater 10 and the second heater 18 from a heater supply tank 6 through a heat exchanger 8 by a heater supply pump 7. Sulfite and sulfur oxide are regenerated from bisulfite by heating the first heater 10 with steam. In this process, an organic or inorganic compound having a plurality of coordination positions is supplied continuously or intermittently from compound supply pipes 12, 19 so that its concentration in a circulating liquid is maintained at least 10ppm.
