PURPOSE: To avoid generation of high level NOx while generating effective heat for heating an article in a furnace by jetting secondary oxidized matters, at a specified velocity, into a specified position of a flue system.
CONSTITUTION: Fuel and oxidized matters are fed, at a substantially stoichiometric ratio, into a furnace 10 charged wit an article 2 and conducting with a flue system 5. Fuel and oxidized matters are combusted in the furnace 10 to produce combustion reaction gas containing carbon monoxide along with heat for heating the charged article 2 and then the combustion reaction gas is passed into the flue system 5 from the furnace 10. Subsequently, secondary oxidized matters are jetted, at a rat of 20 ft/sec (about 6 m/see) or above, to a position in the flue system 5 where the temperature of the combustion reaction gas is at least 1600° F (about 871°C). The secondary oxidized matters react on carbon monoxide contained in the combustion reaction gas in the flue system 5 to produce carbon dioxide.
