To reduce cost by reducing the number of parts of a torque converter 1 and simplifying structure.
The torque converter 1 for transmitting torque from an engine to a transmission comprises a front cover 2; an impeller 9 forming a fluid chamber together with the front cover 2; a turbine 10 arranged facing the impeller 9 in the fluid chamber and having a turbine shell 14; a lock-up device 5 serving as a mechanism for mechanically connecting the front cover 2 to the turbine 10 and having a piston 51 for frictional engagement with the front cover 2, and a driven plate 53 for transmitting torque from the piston 51 to the turbine 10; and an annular support member 16 connected to a drive shaft 8 of the transmission and allowing either one of the driven plate 53 and turbine shell 14 to be welded and fixed thereto.
