Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fluorescent red colorant compd. exhibiting a high luminance and a good fastness by introducing a cycloalkyl group into a fluorescent red azathioxanthene colorant compd.
SOLUTION: This compd. is represented by formula I wherein A is a cycloalkyl group, a cyclohexyl group being the most suitable. A compd. represented by formula IV is obtd. by reacting a compd. represented by formula 11 with an alkylating agent (e.g. a tosyl ester of a cycloalkanol) in the presence of a deoxidizing agent in an inert solvent (e.g. N,N-dimethylformamide). A compd. represented by formula V is obtd. by reacting a compd. represented by formula IV with o-aminophenol in the presence of a deoxidizing agent in an inert solvent. The objective compd. represented by formula I is obtd. by diazotizing a compd. represented by formula V in water or in a suitable org. solvent and heating the resultant diazonium salt in the presence of a copper catalyst.
