To obtain the subject material excellent in water repellency, oil repellency, antifouling property, etc., by reacting an OH group-containing material other than cellulose materials with a fluorine-containing olefinic compound, a fluorine-containing acrylate compound or a fluorine-containing methacrylate compound in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst to fluorinate the OH group-containing material.
An OH group-containing material (e g. starch, glass, etc.), other than a cellulose material is made to react with a fluorine-containing olefinic compound [e.g. a compound. of the formula RfCF=CF2 (Rf is a perfluoro-alkyl, etc.), etc.], a fluorine-containing acrylate compound [e.g. a compound of the formula Rf'(OCOCH=CH2)n (Rf' is perfluoro, etc.), etc.], or a fluorine-containing methacrylate compound {e.g. a compound of the formula Rf'[OCOC(CH3)=CH2]n, etc.}, in an organic solvent (e.g. acetonitrile) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. KF, etc.).
