PURPOSE: To prepare the subject compd. each of which has a purinyl group or a pyrimidinyl group in the first position, has antiviral activity and is usable for the treatment of infection from viruses in mammals and the Aves.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. of formula I [R1 is formulae II to VIII (R2 is a 1-10C alkyl; R3 is H, an aryl, 1 to 10-C alkyl, a halogen, NH2, OH, CN or the like; R4 is H, a halogen, methyl, CF3, ethyl, n-propyl or the like), etc.; R6 is OH, CH2OH, OPO3H2, CH2-OPO3H2, O-C(=O)-R3, CH2-O-C(=O)-R3 or C(=O)R3] or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof such as (1α,2β,3β)-2-amino-9-[3- fluoro-2,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutyl]-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one. The compd. is active on simple Herpes viruses 1 and 2, strap dropsical viruses, cytomegaloviruses, human immunological viruses and the other DNA viruses (such as hepatitis B virus).
