To obtain the subject compounds containing trihydro- and tetrahydro- fluorinated saturated hydrocarbons at a specific ratio by catalytically hydrogenating a perfluro group bearing saturated hydrocarbon and unsaturated hydrocarbon over a noble metal catalyst.
Fluorinated saturated hydrocarbon of formula I (R3 is -CX =CF-(X is H, F); Rf1 and Rf2 are each perfluoroalkyl, fluorine, H, at lease one of them is a perfluoroalkyl and Rf1 and Rf2 may link to each other to form a ring of perfluoroalkylene chain) is catalytically hydrogenated in a hydrogen atmophere. At this time, the polarity of the components other than the substrate material in the reaction system is altered whereby the objective fluorinated saturated hydrocarbon is obtained that contains ≤95 mol.% of chained or cyclic trihydrofluorinated hydrocarbons of the formula II (R1 is a group formed by linking CHF to CH2) and the rest of tetrahydrofluorinated saturated hydrocarbon of formula III (R2 is a group formed by linking CH2 to CH2) at a controlled ratio.
