NEW MATERIAL:A fluorine-containing carbonyl compound expressed by formula I [one of R1, R2 and R3 is lower fluoroaliphatic group of F, the rest are H, halogen, aliphatic group, aromatic group or group expressed by OR5 (R5 is R4); R2 may link with R4 to form a ring when R2 is not lower fluoroaliphatic group or F; R4 may form ether bond by removal reaction of R5OH between R4 and hydroxyl group at the γ-position when R4 is OR5].

EXAMPLE: 5-Hydroxy-4-trifluoromethyl-2-hexanone.

USE: With improved physiological activity, useful as for example an anti- inflammatory agent, and also as a semisynthetic intermediate for antibiotics.

PREPARATION: An alcohol expressed by formula II is reacted with an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound expressed by formula III in the presence of a yeast to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
