EXAMPLE: The compound of formula II.
USE: A solvent, an additive and an organic electrolyte solution. It has high polarity and dielectric constant, improves the storage stability of a dye, etc., when compound thereto and improves the surface properties of plastics and dispersibility of other additives in plastics by mixing to the plastics.
PREPARATION: For example,a fluorine-containing diol of formula III is subjected to ester interchange reaction with a dialkyl carbonate in the presence of an ester interchange catalyst (e.g. potassium carbonate) under refluxing. The molar ratio of the carbonate to the diol is preferably (1.1W2):1. The starting compound of formula III can be produced e.g. reacting a fluorine-containing alcohol with glycidol in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide).
