Abstract:
Compounds according to formula D-S¹-A-B¹, where: A represents -Ar1-(FL-Ar2)n-; Ar1 and Ar2 each represent a bond or an aromatic or heteroaromatic diradical, or two aromatic or heteroaromatic diradicals mutually connected by a single bond, or a FL moiety, or two FL moieties mutually connected by a single bond; n is an integer from 1-8. FL represents a 2,7- disubstituted 9,9-fluoroalkyl fluorene diradical according to the formula as shown where R preferably represents an alkyl group; S1 and S2 are flexible linker groups, preferably octyloxy groups. D represents a crosslinkable group, and may be a vinyl ether, maleimide, maleate, or fumarate group. B1 is a crosslinkable group or a hydrogen atom. The fluoroalkylfluorene derivatives may be liquid crystalline materials. Network polymers may be formed by exposure of the crosslinkable groups to radiation, preferably ultraviolet radiation. Also claimed is a device comprising a plurality of charge transport layers and/or emissive layers that contain compounds as defined above. Preferably the device is an OLED device. Preferably the OLED device comprises a light emitting layer that comprises a compound as defined above comprising a uniformly aligned liquid crystalline structure.
