Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compound represented by formula I (wherein X is Cl, Br, CF3, I, OCF3, CF2CI, CF2H or CF2CCl).
EXAMPLE: 4-(4-Bromo-2-fluorophenoxy)phenol.
USE: A novel intermediate for the production of novel fluorophenoxyphonoxy propionates of formula II, useful as active ingredients for herbicides and derivatives thereof acceptable as agrochemicals.
PREPARATION: A 4-[4'-(substituted)-2'-fluorophenoxy]nitrobenzene of formula III is hydrogenated in the presence of H2 and a Raney nickel catalyst to form a novel compound of formula IV. This compound is then reacted with fluoroboric acid of HBF4 in the presence of NaNO2 and water to form a novel compound of formula V. This is reacted with an aqueous sulfuric acid under heating or reacted with an alkali metal salt of trifluoroacetic acid and water to obtain a compound of formula I.
