Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the quality of the fillet welded joint of shop primer coated steel plates by using flux for submerged arc welding having a specific chemical compsn.

CONSTITUTION: The flux for submerged arc welding which consists essentially, by total weight of the flux, of 35 to 55wt.% SiO2, 20 to 60wt.% MnO, 0.2 to 20wt.% MgO, and 1 to 5wt.% F value in terms of the fluorine of fluoride, contains substantially no water of crystallization, and contains 0.02 to 0.1wt.% one or ≥ kinds of the hydrogen compds. of metals or alloys in terms of hydrogen is constituted. The stage for removing shot primers is eliminated and the fillet weld beads which are free from weld defects, such as pits, and have excellent shapes are obtd. in the fillet submerged arc welding of the shop primer coated steel plate by using such flux.
