To provide a flying ash treatment method which can remove not only unburned carbon but also trace elements from flying ash, and the flying ash.
In the flying ash treatment method, the flying ash containing unburned carbon particles and ash particles, after being charged into a fly ash hopper 1, is supplied into electrified piping 3 by a fly ash supply part 2 and transported to an electrostatic separation part 4 by compressed air. By friction electrification by the collision of the unburned carbon particles and the ash particles with the inner wall surface of the electrified piping 3 or the collision between the unburned carbon particles and the ash particles, the ash particles are charged negatively and the unburned carbon particles are charged positively. The unburned carbon particles and the ash particles receive force in the opposite direction respectively from an electric field when they pass through the electrostatic separation part 4 so that their flows are biased. In this way, low unburned carbon ash of at least 40% unburned carbon removal rate and high unburned carbon ash of a high unburned carbon content are recovered.
