Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the fluctuation in the rotation of an engine at the low speed thereof, by increasing the inertial mass of the engine, and to improve the response of the engine at the acceleration thereof, by decreasing said inertial mass, without changing the total mass of a flywheel. CONSTITUTION:Plural movable weights 12 are attached to a flywheel 1 mounted on a crankshaft, so that the positions of the weights can be shifted. Each movable weight 12 is shaped as an egg and rotatably supported with a shaft. When the revolution speed of an engine in low, each movable weight 12 is rotated so that the center of gravity thereof is located in a radially outer position. When the speed of the engine is increased, a ring gear 13 for turning the movable weights 12 is rotated by the oil pressure of a hydraulic actuator 15 to place the center of gravity of each movable weight in a radially inner position to reduce the inertial mass of the engine to improve the acceleration response thereof.
