Abstract:
To provide a foam composition and a pinholder for flower arrangement which do not generate toxic substances, can be incinerated, are biodegradable, have high water absorbing and holding properties, and resist deformation even in a water-containing state.
First, 100 pts.wt. of modified starch, 30 pts. wt. of shellac, 3 pts.wt. of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and 1 pt. wt. of sodium bicarbonate are mixed. The mixture is extruded from a die in a twin-screw extruder to be foamed, obtaining a foam composition of a cylindrical shape with an outer diameter of about 10 cm. Next, the foam composition is cut into the shape of a cube with edges of 7 cm using a cutter knife, thereby manufacturing the pinholder for flower arrangement.
