PURPOSE:To provide a foamable composition comprising a vinyl chloride resin, a tetra or more-hydric alcohol as a nucleating agent, a decomposition type foaming agent and an organic solvent and capable of giving a foamed product containing fine closed pore cells and having a high foaming ratio. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of (A) 100 pts.wt. of a vinyl chloride resin having an average polymerization degree of 150-5000, (B) 0.05-10 pts.wt. of a tetra- or more-hydric alcohol, preferably pentaerythritol, dipentaerythritol and/or D-mannitol, (C) 20-2000 pts.wt. of an organic solvent, if necessary, (D) 0-3000 pts. wt. of an inorganic filler, preferably 0-300 pts.wt. of asbestos, (E) 1-20 pts.wt. of a stabilizer is kneaded at a temperature above a temperature at which the component C exhibits good compatibility with the component A and below the boiling point of the component C. The kneaded product is mixed further with (F) 5-100 pts.wt. of a decomposition type foaming agent, preferably a foaming agent generating nitrogen gas by the decomposition, further kneaded at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the component F. charged into a closed mold, heated under elevated pressures, and subsequently demolded at a proper foaming temperature to provide the foamed product.
