To obtain a foamable fire-resistant coating material which, under normal conditions, gives effectively a transparent coating film capable of usefully employing the feeling and designability of the base material and which gives effectively a foam layer that has sufficient strengths upon fire and can effectively suppress the temperature rise of the base material.
This foamable fire-resistant coating material contains a binder, a phosphorus compound, a foaming agent, a carbonizing agent, and a foam layer stabilizing agent, and is characterized in that: (1) the foam layer stabilizing agent has a refractive index of 1.4-1.8 and an average particular size of 0.01-50 μm; (2) the foam layer stabilizing agent is contained in an amount of 40-200 pts.wt. based on 100 pts. wt. of the solids of the binder; and (3) the coating film formed with the coating material has a hiding ratio of 10% or less.
