PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a foreign matter penetrating inside a blade chamber from a long hole of a base plate from adhering on an image pickup element behind the blade chamber by being scattered in focal plane shutters.SOLUTION: A focal plane shutter comprises: a base plate 10 and rear plate 20 that include exposure-purpose aperture sections 10a and 20a and long holes 10b, 10c, 20b and 20c; blade members 40 and 50 that are movably arranged within a blade chamber W; and drive members 60 and 70 that are arranged on an outer side of the base plate and have drive pins 60a and 70a to be connected to the blade members through the long holes to drive the blade members. The base plate includes: an annular recess section 10j that is formed around the long holes on a blade chamber side; and an absorption sheet member 91 that is arranged in the annular recess section 10j. Accordingly, simplification of a structure, thinness of a device, compactness thereof and the like are achieved and a foreign matter such as an abrasion powder, oil droplet (lubricant agent) and the like affecting the image pickup element and the like can be prevented from adhering on the image pickup element and the like by being scattered, enabling more high definition image to be photographed.
