Abstract:

To solve such a problem that it is impossible to focus on any position in an image plane when photographing and to appropriately select a main subject, with respect to a multiple-point automatic focus technology.

The device includes: a focus lens 230 that changes a focusing state of a subject image by moving forward or backward in the direction of an optical axis; a driving means 233 for driving the focus lens 230; a position detecting means 243 for detecting the position of the focus lens 230; an imaging element 110 that exposes so as to correspond to the position of the focus lens 230 and creates image data; an evaluation value-calculating means 140 for calculating an evaluation value for automatic focusing in a plurality of predetermined areas in image data based on the created image data; and a focusing state determining means 140 for determining the focusing state in the lowest priority area of a predetermined area based on the evaluation value after determining the focusing states in all positions of the high priority area where the focus lens 230 can be driven.
