To provide technology of performing a focus control at high speed and with high accuracy even under illumination with flickering.
Before starting AF control, when a flicker frequency (for example, 50Hz or 60Hz) is detected, a frame rate is set to n-times (for example, 200fps or 240fps) as many as the flicker frequency L. Thereafter, by calculating a single AF evaluation value by using n/2 pieces (for example, two) of temporally continuously obtained image data, a plurality of AF evaluation values are calculated. The lens focal position of the focus lens 2a is detected on the basis of the plurality of AF evaluation values. By employing such the constitution, sampling of contrast AF control is performed in a cycle shorter than the flickering cycle.
