Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detection device that appropriately amplifies a signal in accordance with a focus detection condition when performing the focus detection on the basis of a phase difference between a pair of image signals obtained from an image pick-up element, and performs a highly accurate focus detection.SOLUTION: A digital camera is configured to calculate an amount of defocus relative to an in-focus position on the basis of a phase difference obtained from an amount of correlation calculated by first calculation means when it is determined that a mode is an operation mode with a heavy processing load. On the other hand, when it is determined that the mode is an operation mode with a light processing load, the digital camera is configured to calculate an amount of defocus relative to the in-focus position on the basis of a phase difference obtained from an amount of correlation calculated by second calculation means. Then, a focus detection is performed based on the calculated amounts of defocus.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
