To provide a focusing position detecting device improving accuracy in detecting a focusing position in focus control, and an imaging apparatus and a focusing position detecting method.
The focusing position detecting device includes a focusing position detecting part 123 detecting the focusing position of a focusing lens when a subject image is focused on an imaging surface, with a peak value of contrast values in image signals based on electric signals during focus control; focusing lens driving parts 143, 144 driving the focusing lens from one end side to the other end side as first driving and driving the focusing lens in an optical axis direction regarding a position and the vicinity of the position where the contrast value becomes the peak value in first driving, as second driving during focus control; and a diaphragm control part 126 controlling the quantity of light irradiated on the imaging surface from the subject image, based on a predetermined diaphragm value in the first driving and controlling the quantity of light based on a diaphragm value used for proper photographing in the second driving.
