PURPOSE: To provide a foldable umbrella which is greatly miniaturized so as to be carried in a pocket by providing such a configuration that a lower pulley is pushed up along a first shank while first and second stays are retracted so that the retracted stays may be stored in a U-like groove in an upper side umbrella frame which is also retracted.

CONSTITUTION: When a foldable umbrella is to be stored, first and second ribs members 10 and 11 of an upper umbrella frame 9 are slightly retracted, and first and second stays 14, 15 of a stay assembly 13 are slightly retracted. Accordingly, a locking part 22b at the peripheral edge of an umbrella fabric 22 can be easily removed from the front end of a fourth rib 4, and then the center of the umbrella fabric 22 is drawn upward by a hand so as to remove the umbrella fabric 22 can be removed from the upper and lower umbrella frames 9, 18. After fourth and third ribs 21, 20 of the lower umbrella frame 18 are retracted, they are folded back upward through a hinge mechanism 19, and then, first, second, third and fourth shanks 2, 3, 4, 5 are successively pushed into so as to shorten the length of the umbrella, thereby it is possible to make the structure body section of the umbrella in an extremely compact size.
