Abstract:
To provide a folding device capable of allowing a user not to perform a paper jam removal operation by preventing a height of a folded bundle from exceeding an allowable upper limit, and discharging paper sheets without causing a paper jam at a discharge port, a folding roller pair or the like.SOLUTION: A folding device escapes a subsequent recording medium from a folded bundle by displacing a folding position and forms the spread-like folded bundle by alternately forming a folding width in designated length and a folding width shorter than the designated length from a folding operation after a predetermined number of sheets, when it is determined that the folding bundle exceeds a predetermined height capable of passing through a discharge port or a folding roller pair by continuing folding processing with a constant folding width, based on the total length of the recording medium and the folding width.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
