Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a beauty food capable of maintaining the lubricity and flexibility of skin to prevent the fine wrinkles and dryness of the skin, and comprising an acidic polysaccharide, etc., obtained by decomposing the flesh of a shellfish with a protease, removing the decomposed proteins, removing low mol.wt. substances, and subsequently adding a quaternary ammonium salt.

CONSTITUTION: The flesh of a shellfish such as Pinctada martensii is decomposed with a protease, and subjected to a protein-removing treatment, to a dialyzing treatment, and subsequently further to the addition of a quaternary ammonium salt to precipitate an acidic polysaccharide. The precipitates are dissolved in the aqueous solution of an inorganic salt such as sodium chloride or potassium chloride, and subsequently reprecipitated with an alcohol aqueous solution. The purification treatment is performed at least once, and the objective food is obtained from the purified product.
