PURPOSE: To provide a food or drink having excellent effect for improving the drunken sickness symptoms such as skin flush, heat sensation, involuntary movement, tachycardia, headache, dull headache, retching, nausea, foul breath and uraroma caused by alcohol drinking, especially excessive drinking.
CONSTITUTION: The objective food or drink for ameliorating drunken sickness contains, as an active component, the solvent extract of Hovenia dulcis, preferably an extract produced by extracting the dried or dried and crushed ripe fruit, seed, gynophore or fruit branch (especially fruit or gynophore) of hovenia dulcis with an extractant (preferably an alcohol, water or their mixture). Various symptoms of drunken sickness caused by alcohol drinking can effectively be ameliorated by taking the food or drink before, during or after drinking, especially before or during drinking.
