PURPOSE: To obtain a compact hood weight sensing apparatus for a microwave oven capable of precisely measuring by preventing the erroneous operation due to an external factor by protecting a fixed electrode and a movable electrode against the exterior.

CONSTITUTION: The food weight sensing apparatus comprises a stationary side spacer 3 fixed to the lower one side of a base plate 1 by a bracket 2, and a movable side spacer 4 having a horizontal support formed by extending the lower one side, provided at a load supporting bracket 6 opposed to the spacer 4 and vertically movable in response to the load of a material to be measured on a tray 8. Further, the apparatus comprises urging means 5a, 5b provided between the spacers 3 and 4 to apply elasticity at the time of vertically moving of the spacer 4, and variable weight sensing means 11 and 12 disposed between the horizontal part of the bracket 2 and the horizontal support of the spacer 4 to sense the weight of the material to be measured by the electrostatic capacity value obtained according to the change of the area of the part opposed to an electrode plate.
