Title:
ODOR SENSOR AND ODOR MEASURING INSTRUMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3118945
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a response corresponding to an odor concentration by providing a glass film electrode and the film of an oil-soluble ionic substance which is attached to the glass film electrode and causes a potential change upon adsorbing an odor material.
CONSTITUTION: The title odor sensor is provided with a glass film electrode 1 and the film 2 of an oil-soluble ionic substance which is attached to the electrode 1 and causes a potential change upon adsorbing an odor material. When the sensor is dipped in pure water 6 contained in a beaker 5 together with a reference electrode 3 and an odor material, for example, d-limonene is dissolved in the water, the odor material is adsorbed by the sensor and a potential is generated on the film 2. The potential is read with a voltmeter 4 as the voltage across the electrodes 1 and 3. The film 2 of the oil-soluble ionic substance, such as lecithin, etc., is manufactured in such a way that 1 pt.wt. lecithin is dissolved in 100 pts.wt. chloroform and the solution is applied to and dried on the electrode 1.
