To provide a mechanism of preventing mischief to the inside of a foreign substance return portion provided in an automatic transaction device.

A foreign substrate return portion 7 for retaining a foreign substance, falling from a bank note input section 3, in a returnable manner includes a foreign substance return path 8 and a foreign substance storage 9. A rotatable door 15 is provided on a return outlet 14. Further, a partition member 18 is provided on a lower guide 13 forming the foreign substance storage 9. The partition member 18 is rotatable around a rotation fulcrum 19, and driven by a motor 20. In the vicinity of the tip portion of the door 15, a detection sensor 17 is provided. When the detection sensor 17 detects the door 15 is opened, the partition member 18 is rotated by the motor 20, so as to block the inner side of the foreign substance return path 8.
