To provide a form rolling method capable of sufficiently improving accuracy of a tooth trace, and executing the form rolling of a helical gear without machining any unnecessary portion.
A form rolling method includes: a first form rolling step of rolling a workpiece W for form rolling in a first engagement state in which a first surface to be worked of the workpiece W for form rolling is engaged with a four-tooth engagement area, and a second surface to be worked thereof is engaged with a five-tooth engagement area; a second form rolling step of rolling the workpiece W for form rolling in a second engagement state in which the second surface to be worked is engaged with the four-tooth engagement area, and the first surface to be worked is engaged with the five-tooth engagement area; and an engagement state changing step of changing the engagement state of a forming tooth with a working tooth into the first engagement state or the second engagement state by generating a relative slip in the engagement surface between the forming tooth and the working tooth formed on the first and second surfaces to be worked, and relatively turning the workpiece W for form rolling to roller dies 4a, 4b for form rolling by the relative slip.
