Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce the subject new copolymer with an excellent hue, useful as a high-molecular amino acid reagent, etc., without increase in viscosity or gelation by imidating a specified copolymer according to a specified method and subsequently deacidifying the resultant reactional product using a base. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer containing 20 to 99.8mol% unit of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each H, nitrile, etc.), 50 to 0mol% unit of formula II (R<3> and R<4> are each H, a 1 to 4C alkyl, etc.) and 30 to 0.2mol% unit of formula III (R<5> to R<7> are R<1>; R<8> is methylene, ethylene, etc.; R<9> and R<10> are each II, a 1 to 6C alkyl, etc.; R<12> is H or a 1 to 10C alkyl; (n) is 1 to 10) is reacted with a slat of a piperazine derivative (preferably N-aminoethylpiperaziner etc.) of formula IV (R<11> is a 1 to 12C alkylene, a 6 to 12C arylene, etc.) in the presence of a formyl group-containing compound selected from formamide, formic acid and salts thereof. The resultant reactional product is subsequently brought into contact with a base so as to be deacidified, thus producing the objective copolymer having 20 to 99.8mol% unit I, 50 to 0mol% unit II and 30 to 0.2mol% (in total amount) units of formulae V and VI (provided that unit V is >=0.2mol%).
