PURPOSE: To set a format with a small amount of data by providing a means to input the number of characters, and a means to set the format from the number of inputted characters.
CONSTITUTION: Set format data is displayed in format change picture 7 by a format data display change means and a print image correspondence means. Firstly, the display of a sheet frame of long lengthwise or long side ways is performed by the direction of a sheet. Thence, right space and lower space are calculated for display. After that, the display of format data is performed. Upper space is displayed in 731, the lower space in 732, left space in 733, the right space in 734, the number of characters per row is 735, the number of rows per page in 736, and the display of sheet size and character direction in 737. Thereby, since the format can be changed after setting the format by inputting the number of characters, detail change in performed.
