Abstract:
PURPOSE:To stably and efficiently obtain alumina whiskers by heating the surface of ferritic stainless steel contg. Al in the surface at a prescribed temp. in an oxidizing atmosphere contg. chromium oxide. CONSTITUTION:An Al (alloy) plating layer is formed on the surface of ferritic stainless steel by mechanical plating or other method to obtain Al-contg. steel contg. 6-20wt.% Al in the surface. This Al-contg. steel is introduced into a heating furnace and heated at 850-975 deg.C for about 16hr in an oxidizing atmosphere contg. chromium oxide such as Cr2O3 to form alumina whiskers on the entire surface of the ferritic stainless steel.
