PURPOSE: To stably produce a high density compact free from the change of dimensions in the horizontal direction by charging a compact of a powdery mixture of highly conductive metals and high m.p. heat resistant metals or heat resistant carbides, nitrides and borides into a pan via a frame made of a material stable at a high temp., evacuating the same and thereafter executing hot rolling in the height direction.
CONSTITUTION: By weigh, 10 to 95% powder of highly conductive metals such as Ag, Cu or the like is mixed with 5 to 90% powder of heat resistant materials such as C, Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, W or the like or the oxides, carbides, nitrides, borides or the like of various metals, and the powder mixture is subjected to uniaxial pressing to form into a compact 20 having density of 60 to 95% of the theoretical density, having length and width required as those of a final compact and having thickness more than that to be required. Plural compacts 20 are charged into a frame 32 composed of a metal, ceramics or the like stable at a high temp., this combined body is piled in plural steps in a pan 31, evacuation is executed, and it is pressurized in the upper and lower directions while being heater in a heating furnace to produce the compact for electric contacts free from the change of dimensions of length and width, compacted in the thickness direction and having ≥99.5% density with excellent productivity.
