PURPOSE: To enable precise molding into a fixed form without passing through complicated molding or a manufacturing process, by a method wherein a silicon nitride-silicon carbide composite sintered body which is manufactured by liquid phase sintering and comprises a fine structure whose mean particle diameter is specified is deformed and molded under a stress action within an ultraplastic temperature range.
CONSTITUTION: The title ceramics is of a silicon nitride-silicon carbide composite sintered body which is manufactured by liquid phase sintering and comprised of a fine structure whose mean particle diameter is not exceeding 2μm. Silicon carbide is composed mainly of β phase, content of which is 10-50 volume % and silicon nitride contains at least 40% of β phase. This is a molding method for composite ceramics where the silicon nitride-silicon carbide composite sintered body, sintered body of whidh has a mean particle diameter of not exceeding 2μm and is comprised of a particle in a isodiametric state, is deformed and molded at a distorting rate of not exceeding 10-1 sec-1 under a stress action at an ultraplastic temperature range of 1,400-1,700°C.
