Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form an obliquely vapor-deposited film on a glass substrate to uniform thickness by arranging the glass substrate at a specific position when the liquid crystal orienting film is vapor-deposited obliquely on the glass substrate. CONSTITUTION:The glass substrate 6 is arranged above a vapor-deposition source 1 and the liquid crystal orienting film is vapor-deposited obliquely on this substrate 6. The substrate 6 is arranged at the position which satisfies an expression. Here, theta is a solid angle centering the vapor-deposition source 1 and L is the distance between the vapor-deposition source 1 and substrate 6. Those distance L and solid angle theta are properly determined according to the kind of the vapor-deposition source 1 and vapor-deposition conditions such as a vapor-deposition angle which are required to form the orienting film, but the distance L is normally 20-60cm and the solid angle theta is preferably <=30 deg.. Further, plural substrates 6 can be arranged as long as the arrangement positions of the substrates 6 are within a specific range.
