Abstract:

To produce a formed material based on an oxide mixture produced by a pyrolysis method, methods for producing and using the same, a phosphoric acid catalyst and a method for using the same.

The oxide mixture produced by the pyrolysis method has an outer diameter of 0.8-25 mm, a BET surface area of 5-400 m2/g, a pore volume of 0.2-1.8 ml/g, a fracture strength of 5-350 N and a bulk density of 250-1,500 g/l and contains at least two kinds selected from the group consisting of SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2 and ZrO2 and the other components in an amount of <1 wt.%. The formed material is obtained by homogeneously mixing the oxide mixture with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of methyl cellulose, methylhydroxyethyl cellulose, wax, polyethylene glycol, magnesium stearate or aluminum stearate in the presence of water, then drying the mixture at 70-150°C, if necessary, pulverlizing the dried material, pressing the powder to obtain a formed material and heat-treating the formed material at 400-1,200°C for 0.5-10 hr. The formed material can be used in the hydration process of ethylene and propylene as a catalyst or a catalyst carrier.
