To provide a former for papermaking by which a paper quality is improved by suppressing the development of the paper defect caused by the landing of a raw material jet and the paper defect caused by dewaterability.
This former for the papermaking has two wires 3 and 4 forming a space for the papermaking by mutually converging, and a plurality of dehydrating blades 21 and 31 arranged in the space for the papermaking so as to be parallel to the papermaking direction and slidably contacting with one 4 of the wires 3 and 4, and dehydrates the paper raw material liquid 2 while nipping and conveying the paper raw material liquid 2 in the space for the papermaking. The plurality of the dehydrating blades 3 and 4 are formed into convex surface shapes bent in the traveling direction of the wires 3 and 4. The dehydrating blades 3 and 4 have wire-sliding surfaces 21b and 31b for guiding the travel of the wire 4 by keeping contact with the wire 4, and water-discharging openings (grooves) 21a and 31a for discharging the water content dehydrated from the wire 4 side are formed in the wire-sliding surfaces 21b and 31b.
