Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method and device for a relatively eco-friendly production of formic acid without any high concentration potassium carbonate solution or high-pressure condition.SOLUTION: A formic acid is produced, in which: a conductive diamond electrode is used for a cathode; a first electrolytic solution for the cathode includes rubidium ions, cesium ions, or potassium ions and includes carbon dioxide; a voltage is applied to the first electrolytic solution using the conductive diamond electrode; and the carbon dioxide is reduced by electrolytic reduction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
